dedicated to bringing 100% premium, single origin Arabica coffee from a community of smallholder producers and local family businesses up in the luscious mountains of Northern Thailand to your cup. Like our growing and production partners, our roots are in Thailand. Our ambition is the same as theirs: we share a determination to succeed in bringing 50 years of quiet cultivation of uniquely flavored beans from connoisseur’s secret to common knowledge.

On the edge of Myanmar and Laos, up in the heights around the Chiang Mai valley, Northern Thailand - the historical center of the Lan Na Thai Kingdom - soars to over 2,000m above sea level. Doi Inthanon, the highest point in Thailand, is here and the rivers that flow from these mountains become the River of Kings, Chao Phraya, in the heart of low-lying capital city Bangkok. This is prime coffee growing country, sharing the Bean Belt latitude nourishing market heavy-weights Brazil, Peru, Sumatra, Columbia and Ethiopia.
Quality begins in this soil
Fruity and nutty, vibrantly acidic, smelling like flowers; some say chocolatey and note flavors of orange, cherry and brown sugar. The taste of Thailand’s northern mountains is complex. As complex as the micro-climates feeding its changing landscapes, as the social industry backing the gamut of independent family farms to community holdings run by farmer associations. Every time we talk cultivars and weather with growers; walk the processing rooms and discuss traditional methods and top-of-the-line equipment with producers; sit down with a cup to chat about hospitality and competition with roasters; we meet with people who are multi-ethnic, culturally diverse and linguistically varied. The craftsmanship they bring to drawing aroma and flavor from cherry to bean is what determines if that first, second, third sip of coffee is typical or sublime. Our part is to honor the distinctions we find when sourcing, committing to caliber and character at every phase of the seed to cup journey.

This once neglected region is rising to the challenge of harnessing their agricultural heritage to become a global player in premium coffee. Success is seeing more income lead to a better quality of life for these diverse communities. People who have been perceived as marginal, their region as underdeveloped. Increasingly recognized as ancient, authentic and - agents of change – we at Kafae Mountain intend to positively impact our coffee partners at origin, investing in individuals and creating direct partnerships that foster better economic, social and environmental outcomes whenever possible. We will provide a fair price across our supply chain, recognizing the dedication and years of knowledge it takes at every step to have that pristine bean, year after year.
